11881 Private William Screech of the 10th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Beatrice Hutchings (formerly Screech)  and the late Daniel Screech.(Master Mariner). Born in Appledore in 1897. Died 24 April 1917 aged 20.
JAMES CURTIS
8572 Private James Curtis of the 2nd Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Francis and Elizabeth Curtis. Born in Appledore in 1886. Died 20 February 1915 aged 29.
WILLIAM CORK
19311 Lance Corporal William Arthur Cork of the 5th Battalion, the Dorsetshire Regiment; formerly 2410, the Royal North Devon Hussars. Son of George and Lucy Cork. Born in Northam in 1893. Died 11 January 1917 aged 24.
WILLIAM JEWELL
13297 Private William Ashton Jewell of the 1st Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of William (Master Mariner) of Vernon's Lane) and Clara Jewell. Born in Barnstaple in 1896. Died 20 June 1917 aged 21,

S/21785 Private William Albert Gliddon of the 2nd Battalion, the Seaforth Highlanders; formerly T4/186542 of the RASC,  Son of William and Mary Ann Gliddon. Born in Stratton, Cornwall in 1887. Died 4 July 1917 aged 30.

703295 Private William Paul Prance of the 102nd Battalion, the Canadian Infantry. Son of John and Susan Prance of Holt Lodge, Appledore. Born in Abbotsham in the March Quarter of 1879.  Died 15 September 1916 aged 38.

JOHN PENHORWOOD
204181 Private John Penhorwood of the 7th Battalion, (Prince Albert's), the Somerset Light Infantry. Son of Alec and Jennie Penhorwood; husband of Mary ("Polly") of Market Street, Appledore.  Born in Bristol in 1890. Died 7 December 1917 aged 31.
FRANK PALMER
22059 Private Frank Palmer of the 12th (Bristol) Battalion, the Gloucestershire Regiment; formerly 23984 of the Hussars of the Line. Son of William and Sarah Jane Palmer. Born in Northam in 1894. Died 25 September 1916 aged 24.
STEPHEN HARE
8686 Lance Corporal Stephen Sherwell Hare of the 5th Trench Mortar Brigade, the Australian Field Artillery. Son of Thirza Hare and the late Henry Hare. Born in Appledore in 1889. Died 29 July 1918 aged 29. Awarded the Military Medal.
EDGAR GALSWORTHY
2nd Lieutenant Edgar Galsworthy, the 11th Battalion, the Tank Corps. Son of Arthur and Harriet Galsworthy. Born in Appledore in 1894. Died 27 September 1918 aged 24.
MARK HEDDEN
28883 Private Mark Hedden of the 2nd Battalion, the Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Son of John and Emma Jane Hedden. Born in Welcombe, Clovelly in 1888. Died 13 November 1918 aged 30. Buried in St Mary's Cemetery, Appledore.

27317 Private Robert Edward Bailey of the 6th Battalion (the Wiltshire Yeomanry), the Wiltshire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Theresa Bailey of Meeting Street, Appledore. Born in Bristol in 1899. Died 23 March 1918 aged 19.

8110 Private Thomas Smalldon of the 1st Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Grace Smalldon. Born in Bideford in 1891. Died 14 January 1915 aged 24.
GEORGE COOK
2454 Private George Cook of the 1st/6th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of James and Marina Cook. Born in Appledore in 1895. Died 26 October 1916 aged 21.
STANLEY HINKS
552951 Private Stanley Hinks of the 8th Battalion, the Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment). Son of John and Sarah Hinks of Irsha Street, Appledore. Born in Instow in the June Quarter of 1891. When his father died at sea, he was sent to live at the British Seamen's Orphanage in Brixham. On 18 March 1910 he emigrated to Canada. Died 28 April 1917 aged 26.
ARTHUR GREGORY
16661 Private Samuel Arthur Gregory of the 9th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Polly Gregory of Myrtle Street, Appledore.  Born in Appledore 25 March 1895. Died 6 September 1916 aged 21.
CHARLES POWE
3/6632 Private Charles Henry Powe of the 3rd Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment; transferred to 213th Protection Company, the Royal Defence Corps. Son of Richard and Elizabeth Powe of One End Street, Appledore. Born in Appledore in 1897. Died 21 July 1917 aged 20. Buried in St Mary's Cemetery, Appledore.
FRED W. MILLER
His military history is not yet confirmed. He is  believed to have been the son of Richard and Fanny Miller. 
JOHN WESTLAKE
83833 Gunner Thomas John Westlake of "C" Battery, 47th Brigade, the Royal Field Artillery. Son of Thomas and Frances Westlake, Born in Appledore in 1890. Died 22 January 1916 aged 26.
SIDNEY LEWIS
15495 Private Sidney Lewis of the Machine Gun Corps; formerly 18894, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of William and Ann Lewis of 36 Meeting Street, Appledore. Born in Appledore in the March Quarter of 1891. Died 16 April 1916 aged 25.

1823 Private John Gent May of the 1st/6th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of William and Mary May of Market Street, Appledore. Born in Appledore in 1890. Died 26 May 1916 aged 21.

FREDERICK DAVIES
35264 Private Frederick John Davies of the 16th |Battalion, the Royal Warkwickshire Regiment.  Son of Frederick and Martha Davies. Born in Bideford in 1899. Died 27 September 1918 aged 19.
STANLEY MATTHEWS
The military record of this man is not yet confirmed. He is believed to have been the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Matthews who was born in Weare Gifford in 1885.

S/19690 Rifleman Thomas Lamey of the 7th Battalion, the Rifle Brigade. Son of Georgina Lamey and late Bartholomew Lamey; husband of Ellen Lamey. Born in Appledore in the March Quarter of 1893. Died 15 October 1917 aged 27.

345743 Private Thomas C. Cork of the 16th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment; transferred to the Labour Corps as 549475. Son of Goerge and Lucy Cork. Born in Northam in 1895. Died 19 March 1919. Buried in St Mary's Cemetery, Appledore.
