21530 Sergeant (William) Harold Paddon of the 14th Battalion, the Gloucestershire Regiment. Son of Sarah Paddon of Coldharbour, Bideford and the late Eli Paddon. Born in Bideford in 1896. Died 19 July 1916 aged 20.
A. W. PEARSE
 2129 Corporal Arthur William Pearse of the 1st/6th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Charles and Ellen Pearse of Bideford. Born in Bideford in 1888. Died 8 March 1916 aged 28.
H. PENHALE
G/9368 Corporal Hugh William Penhale of the 10th Battalion, the Queen's Own Regiment. Son of Alice Penhale of Ashleigh House, Barnstaple and the late William Penhale. Born in Barnstaple in 1897. Died 31 July 1917 aged 21.
A. T. PENKETH
Lieutenant Alfred Thomas Penketh of the 1st Battalion, the South Staffordshire Regiment. Son of Major and Mrs Penketh of Teignmouth. Born in Bideford in 1884. Died 12 May 1917 aged 34.  He was a cashier at the National Provincial Bank, Bideford.
F. J. PETERS
The middle initial seems to be wrong on the large Memorial but correct on the smaller version.. This man is 50689 Private Francis Terriel Peters of the 15th Battalion, the Royal Warwiskshire Regiment. The North Devon Journal also has an incorrect second name for him. He lived with his aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth Elliott, who with her husband Thomas Elliott, ran the Swan Inn, Bideford and gave her name as next of kin. He was born in Bath in the December Quarter of 1899. Died 27 September 1918 aged 19.
G.  PHILLIPS
9221 Sergeant George Lamberton Phillips of the ATD Section, the Royal Engineers. Son of John and Frances Phillips of West Down; husband of Ida Phillips. Born in Swansea in 1879. Died 2 January 1917 aged 38.

203124 Private Frederick J. Potter of the 2nd Battalion, the Wiltshire Regiment; formerly 315368 of the Devonshire Regiment. Grandson of William and Susannah Potter of Higher Gunstone, Bideford. Born in Bideford in 1882. Died 31 July 1917 aged 35.

7739 Private Hedley Thomas Potter of the 1st Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Jane Potter of Silver street, Bideford. Born in Bideford in 1886. Died 30 October 1914 aged 28.
W. H. POTTER
260362 Sergeant William Henry Potter of the 10th Battalion the Royal Warwickshire Regiment; formerly 2128 of the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Louisa  Potter (w) of Meddon Street, Bideford. Born in Bideford in 1893. Died 20 September 1918 aged 28. 
W.C. POUND
Second Mate William Charles Pound of the Mercantile Marine, SS Joseph Chamberlain. Son of William and Barbara Pound of Lime grove, Bideford. Born in Chulmleigh in 1878. Died 18 September 1917 aged 39.  The SS Joseph Chamberlain, (renamed SS Aigwen shortly before the sinking iin 1917), was torpedoed and sunk by UB62 while sailing from Archangel to Dieppe. 
J. PRANCE

2nd Class Air Mechanic John Prance of the Royal Flying Corps. Son of Sidney Prance, the harbourmaster at Bidford and his wife Bessie. Born in Bideford in 1885. Died 23 June 1918 aged 33 following a brief illness. Awarded the DCM.

 

His citation reads:

"For gallant conduct and valuable services on the night of 10th-11th March 1915, in assisting to repair one of our aeroplanes which had been forced to descend near the firing line whilst  being heavily shelled by the enemy. The machine was enabled to fly away by the following morning."

345895 Private Job Prouse of the Royal Devon Yeomanry and the Royal north Devon Yeomanry. Son of Job and Prudence Prouse. Born in Buckland Brewer in 1896. Died 3 December 1917 aged 21.

Lieutenant Frank Cecil Puddicombe of the 8th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of William Henry and Margaret Puddicombe. Born in Bideford in 1898. Died 28 October 1918 aged 20.
H. PURVES
260258 Sergeant Harry Purves of the 2nd/6th Battalion, the Royal Warkwickshire Regiment; formerly 21485, the Somerset Light Infantry.. Son of Mary Purves of the Strand, Bideford and the late Richard Purves; husband of Charlotte Purves of Kingsley Terrace, Bideford. Born in Woolwich in 1880. Died 6 September 1917 aged 37.

240972 Private William Oliver of the 1st/5th Battalion, the Somerset Light Infantry. Son of Elizabeth Rasell and the late Frederick Rasell. Born in London in 1897. Died 22 November 1917 aged 20.
C. H. RENDELL
5074 Private Clyde Henry Rendell of the 1st Battalion, the Australian Infantry Force.  Son of Henry and Eliza Rendell of Yarram, Victoria, Australia. Born in Australia in 1898. Died 6 July 1918 aged 22.
J. H. RENDLE
WR/150487 Sapper John Henry Rendle of the 3rd Light Railway Operations Coy, the Royal Engineers. Son of William and the late Emily Rendle; husband of Bessie Rendle of Providence Street, Bideford. Born in Bideford in 1879. Died 6 April 1919 aged 40. Buried in Bideford Cemetery.

75766 Private Ernest James Richards of the Royal Fusiliers. Son of John and Mary Ann Richards of Abyssinia Terrace, Barnstaple. Born in Barnstaple in the December Quarter of 1894. Died 10 January 1918 aged 23.

5451 Private (Harold) John Rose of the 1st Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Susan Rose of Hart Street, Bideford. Born in Bideford in 1879. Died 11 July 1915 aged 35.
T. ROWE
800 Thomas Curtis of the 3rd/1st Battalion the Royal North Devon Hussars. Son of the late Lewis and Emma Rowe of Hartland. Born in Bideford in 1890. Died 28 May 1916 aged 26.  Buried in Hursley Church Cemetery.
