34560 Lance Corporal William Aggett of the 2nd/4th Battalion, the Ox and Bucks Light Infantry. Son of Daniel and Alice Aggett of Lime Street, Moretonhampstead.  Born in Moreton in 1895. Died 1 November 1918 aged 23.

Captain Francis Hugh Beaufort of the 2nd Battalion, the Ox and Bucks Light Infantry. Son of Adele Beaufort of Moorland View, Bovey and the late Major Francis Beaufort; husband of Charlotte Cobett (formerly Beaufort). Born in Bovey in 1882. Died 16 May 1915 aged 33.

49638 Private Leonard Blamey of the 74th Battalion , the Machine Gun Corps. Son of Joseph and Ethel Blamey of Heathfield, nr. Newton Abbot. Born in Christow in 1896. Died 23 September 1918 aged 22.

241043 Private Wilfred George Ellis Bowden of the 1st/5th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of William and Emma Bowden. Born in Ilsington, nr. Newton Abbot in 1897. Died 20 July 1918 aged 21.
W.J.H.BOYCE

This was his real name but he served under the name of  William John Hosking.

288583 Stoker 1st Class William John Hosking Boyce of the Royal Navy, HMS Goliath. Parents not known. Born in Buckfastleigh in 1874. Died 13 May 1915 aged 41 when his ship was sunk.

Captain Cecil Aubrey Bradford of the Yorkshire Hussars, attached to the Nigerian Regiment. Son of the late Lt-Col D. J. Bradford of Lustleigh and his wife Mary Ann; husband of Mildred Wyatt-Edgell (formerly Bradford). Born in Salcombe, Devon in 1886. Died 24 April 1917 aged 31.

72114 Private Percy George Brimblecombe of the 9th Battalion, the Cheshire Regiment; formerly 3819 of the Royal Devon Yeomanry. Son of Walter and Mary Ann Brimblecombe. Born in Chagford in 1899. Died 31 May 1918 aged 19.

9383 Private John James Choak of the 2nd Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of George and Louisa Choak of South View, Bovey Tracey. Born in Porthleven, Cornwall in 1893. Died 11 March 1915 aged 21.

27074 Private Walter James Clatworthy of the 7th Battalion, the Somerset Light Infantry. Husband of Elizabeth Clatworthy of Wolborough Street, Newton Abbot. Born in Oakford in 1887; lived in Bovey Tracey.

60560 Driver Frederick Thomas Coldridge of the Royal Engineers. Husband of H. M. Gribble (formerly Coldridge, of Fore Street, Bovey Tracey.) Born in Bovey in 1892; lived in Exeter. Died 20 October 1918 aged 26.

18032 Private Reginald James Cotterill of the 5th Battalion, the Wiltshire Regiment.  Son of Harry Cotterill of Leeds. Born in Winkleigh in 1897; lived in Aldbourne, Wiltshire. Died 2 October 1915 aged 18.

PLY/10862 Corporal Frank William Croote of the Royal Marine Light Infantry serving on HMS Hyacinth. Brought up by grandparents. Born in Bovey Tracey in 1884. Died * 26 November 1917 aged 33.

 

*This is the date of his death  at Maltrines Farm Sanatorium at Nayland-with-Wissington, Suffolk, from Pulmonary TB. He had been discharged two years previously as being too sick to continue in service.

Fitter/Staff Sergeant Verney William Cox of the 138th Heavy Battery, the Royal Garrison Artillery. Son of William and Lydia Cox of Newton Abbot. Born in 1875 but lived in Bovey Tracey. Died 23 August 1917 aged 42.

28874 Private Walter Cox of the 9th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment.  Son of Joseph and Mary Cox. Born in Chudleigh in 1886 but lived in Bovey Tracey. Died 16 November 1917 aged 31.

10380 Private William Charles Dear of the 8th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of William and Eliza of Blenheim Terrace, Bovey Tracey.  Born in Bovey Tracey in 1891 but lived in Exeter. Died 22 October 1915 aged 24.
