Christ Church, in the very heart of the village named as North Brentor on maps, was built as a Chapel of Ease for the tiny church of
St Michael of the Rock
This was built on the top of Brent Tor itself, but as time went by, parishioners decided it was too difficult and too dangerous to climb up the rocky steps in mid-winter (especially for funeral processions) and began to hold all of their regular services here in the village.
