Was this man killed?  - see his medal card and his papers which show him being discharged in 1919.

61625 Private Harold Dewdney of the Royal Army Medical Corps, the 9th Field Ambulance. Son of Sidney and Josepha Dewdney. Born in Brixham in 1897. Died 27 June 1916 aged 19.

No one of this name has been found in any listing. It may have been a mis-spelling (eg. for Dummock) or a mis-hearing) or maybe the information came in bad handwriting but this is certainly a mystery.

Captain Clifford Martin Dunn of the 17th Battalion, the Welsh Regiment.  Son of John and Anna Dunn of Cardiff. Born in Cardiff in the June Quarter of 1892. Died 24 November 1917 aged 25. He became a shipping clerk and may have worked in Brixham.

27618 Private Sameual Memery Eddy of the 1st Battalion, the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry; formerly 23032 of the Somerset Light Infantry. Son of Paul and Mary Eddy. Born in Brixham in 1892. Died 6 September 1916 aged 24.

Captain Godfrey Henry Ermen of the Duke of Wellington's (West Riding) 6th battalion. Son of Francis and Johanna Ermen of Barton-upon-Irwell. Born in Barton, Lancs,  in the September Quarter of 1877. Died 4 May 1915 aged 37 of meningitis.

43893 Private William Reginald ("Reggie") Giles of Princess Charlotte's Royal Berkshire Regiment.; formerly 203466 of the 5th battalion, the  Devonshire Regiment. Son of Richard and Blanche Giles of Milton Street. Born in Brixham in 1897. Died 24 August 1916 aged 19.

4569 Lance Corporal Walter Gordon of the Coldstream Guards. Husband of Ethel Gordon. Born in Torrington in 1884 but worked in Brixham as a local police constable. Died 31 December 1914 aged 30.

26135 Private William Charles Grinter of the 8th Battalion, the Gloucestershire Regiment. Son of George and Mary Ann Grinter. (His father was in the Coastguard service and was posted to Brixham) Born in Osmington, Dorset in 1894. Died 3 July 1916 aged 22.

14382 Private George John Forrest Hammett of the 4th Battalion, the Coldstream Guards. Son of Samuel and Jane Hammett. Born in Brixham in 1897. Died 23 February 1915 in the UK. Buried at Caterham.

Private Percy William Hatton of the Royal Army Medical Corps. Son of Al;bert and Annie Hatton. Born in Torquay in 1892 but lived at Brixham. Died 24 March 1918 aged 26.

2nd Lieutenant Sidney Hannaford Hellyer of the 4th Battalion, the East Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Charles Hellyer JP of the Brixham Steam Trawling Company and his wife Jane. Born in Hull in 1890. Died 8 May 1915 aged 25. Buried in St Mary' Churchyard.
