BRIXTON IN EYRE'S DIRECTORY OF 1895

 

Five miles east from Plymouth is a parish and pleasant village, bounded on the south east by the estuary of the Yealm in the Plympton St Mary Union, Stonehouse county court district, Erminghton and Plympton petty sessional division, Totnes archdeaconry and Plympton Hundred and rural deanery.

 

The church of St Mary was re-roofed in 1886 and a stained window was at the same time placed at the east end, also a new organ added. The living is a vicarage in the patronage of the Dean and Canons of Windsor and is valued at £240. Population of Brixton in 1881 was 686  and in 1891 665.
