Chudleigh is a market town, near the River Teign, 9½ miles South from Exeter, containing 2278 inhabitants (according to the census of 1831). The annual value of assessed property in 1815 was £8988. The houses are principally disposed in one long street, at the western extremity of which is the church; it is dedicated to St. Martin.
