The Clifford Arms from which all coaches departed is the tall white building on the left - still with its old signboard depicting a stage coach.

Chudleigh is a market town, near the River Teign, 9½ miles South from Exeter, containing 2278 inhabitants (according to the census of 1831). The annual value of assessed property in 1815 was £8988. The houses are principally disposed in one long street, at the western extremity of which is the church; it is dedicated to St. Martin.

To Exeter, Mail  from Clifford Arms Inn, daily at ½past 12, returns every evening at 8 to Totnes.

To London: Royal Mail  from Clifford Arms Inn, ½past 12pm, returns ¾ past 12pm  to Plymouth

To London: Subscription  from Clifford Arms Inn daily at ½past 1pm, returns daily at 1pm to Plymouth via Totnes.

To London: The Vivid   from Clifford Arms Inn daily at 5pm, returns ½ past 10am to Plymouth through Ashburton.
