Churchstow in the Hundred of Dartington is a village and a parish about 2 miles from Kingsbridge, containing 1877 acre of land and a population in 1851 of 559 souls. The number of voters in 1857 was 10. Kingsbridge is the polling district.

White Hall, the property of P. S. Lowe Esq., lord of the manor, but now occupied by C. D. MacKenzie Esq., is a very neat and pleasant residence. Leigh is an ancient house, formerly belonging to the Hayes, Oldhams and the Bickfords but now the residence of Mr. R. Heath, a farmer.

The church (St. Mary) is an ancient edifice consisting of nave, chancel, north transept and south aisles. It underwent an entire restoration in 1849 at a cost of £900 and has now a clean and neat appearance. The living is a vicarage with Kingsbridge annexed, in the gift of the Lord Chancellor, and is the incumbency of the Rev. Richard Luney, MA.  Mr. J. Maddick is Clerk.
