COFTON 1939 - 1945 WAR MEMORIAL

60564 Pilot Officer/Pilot of the RAF VR, 44 Squadron.  Son of George and Emma Jane Thompson of Dawlish. Born in Cofton in the March Quarter of 1920. Died 2 September 1941 aged 21.
A.P. YORKE
Midshipman Alexander Peden Yorke of the Royal Navy, HMS Gutkha. Son of Lt/Colonel Simon Yorke and his wife Annie who came from Starcross. Born in 1924 (outside the UK?) Died 17 January 1942 aged 17.
A.J.DAVEY
D/J 108330 Petty Officer Arthur John Davey of HM Submarine Olympus. Son of Albert and Alice Davey; husband of Olive Davey of Middlewood. Born in 1908. Died 8 May 1942 aged 34.
C.HOARE
1202993 Leading Aircraftman Cyril John Hoare of the RAF VR, 242 Squadron. Son of Samuel and Ellen Hoare; husband of Constance Hoare of Dawlish. Born in Cofton in the September Quarter of 1908. Died 10 July 1943 aged 32.
L.DAVEY
43346860 Lance Sergeant Leonard Davey of the East Yorkshire Regiment.  Son of Albert and Alice Davey of Cofton. Born in 1917. Died 11 June 1944 aged 27.
W.D.B.RUTH
33397 Squadron Leader William Denys Butterworth Ruth of the RAF, 201 Squadron. Son of William and Constance Ruth. Born in Wandsworth in the June Quarter of 1918. Died 12 June 1944 aged 26. Awarded the DFC.
A.J.SANT
D/KX 155271  Leading Stoker Albert William James Sant of the Royal Navy, HM Submarine Porpoise. Son of John and Alice Sant of Dawlish. Born in the June Quarter of 1924 in Cofton.  Died 16 January 1945 aged 20.
