Donna Egan's research relating to the Crediton War Memorial has been lengthy and extensive. EDWARD ADAMS
171583 Private Edward Adams of the 3rd Battalion, the Canadian Infantry (Central Ontario Regiment). Eldest son of the late Richard and Mary Adams of Crediton; husband of Agnes Adams of 13 Burgess Avenue, Toronto, Canada. Born in Crediton in the March Quarter of 1861. Died 1 January 1918 aged 56. Died at the Shorncliffe Military Hospital. His son also served with the Canadians. Buried in Holy Cross churchyard, Crediton, north east of the church.
CHARLES AUBER
2nd Lieutenant Charles St. Lo Auber of the 4th (Wessex) Brigade, the Royal Field Artillery. Commissioned after service with the Devon Yeomanry. Son of Lewis Edward St. Lo Auber and Louisa Jane Auber of Westholme, Crediton. Born in Crediton in 1895. Died 29 October 1916 aged 21.
WALLACE BACKWELL
5135 Private Wallace Blackwell of the 1st/8th Battalion, the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Son of William and Mary Hooper Backwell of Greystone Cottage, Park Road, Crediton. Born in Crediton in 1877. Died 27 August 1916 aged 39 - listed as missing, believed killed.
EDWIN BAKER
22131 Private Edwin James Baker of the 2nd/4th Battalion, the Dorsetshire Regiment. Son of the late William Baker  and Sarah Baker of 10, Threshers Road, Crediton. Born in Crediton in the March Quarter of 1889. Died 9 April 1918 aged 29.
STANLEY BERE
B/19502 Private Stanley Edgar Bere of the 26th Battalion ("The Bankers' Company"), the Royal Fusiliers. Son of Edwin and Elizabeth Tremlett Bere of Down St. Mary; brother of Oswald Bere (see below). Born in Exmouth in the September Quarter of 1891. Died 11 June 1916 aged 26. This man volunteered twice but was originally rejected because he had sight in one eye only - he was finally accepted.
OSWALD BERE
242019 Private Oswald Adams Bere of "B" Company, the 2nd/8th Battalion, the Worcestershire Regiment. Son of Edwin and Elizabeth Tremlett Bere of Down St. Mary; brother of Stanley Bere (see above). Born in Crediton in the March Quarter of 1894. Died 28 August 1917 aged 23.

WILLIAM BLATCHFORD
2576 Driver William Henry Blatchford  of the 2nd Pioneer Battalion, the Australian Infantry. Husband of Mrs. Hannah Jane Blatchford of 11 Exeter Road, Crediton; father of Leslie Blatchford (see below). Licensee of the Oak Leaf Hotel in Crediton for many years. Born in Bodmin in the June Quarter of 1872. Died in England 9 September 1921 aged 49.

20542 Private Leslie William Blatchford of the6th Battalion, the Dorsetshire Regiment. Son of  Mrs Hannah J. Blatchford and William H. Blatchford (see above). Born in Crocombe, Somerset in the September Quarter of 1899. Died 27 August 1918 aged 19.
PERCY BODDY
226874 Gunner Percy Boddy of "A" Battery, 93rd Brigade, the Royal Field Artillery. Son of William and Anne Boddy of 5 Dean Street, Crediton; husband of Edith Emily Boddy of 7 Threshers Road, Crediton. Born in Crediton in the March Quarter of 1890. Died 29 October 1917 aged 27.
GRANT BODY
Captain Grant Trenavin Body of the 1st Battalion, the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Son of Dr. Henry Body and his wife Emily. Born in Crediton in the December Quarter of 1878. Died 14 September 1914 aged 36.
ALEXANDER BORNE
79885 Private Alexander John Borne of the 2nd Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Richard John and Emily Ann Borne of "Glenthorne", Crediton.  Born in Kingston in the March Quarter of 1899. Captured and became a POW of the Germans. Died 9 January 1919 aged 19. Buried in the south- east corner of Holy Cross Churchyard, Crediton. 
WILLIAM BREALY
14389 Private William Henry John Brealy (aka Brealey) of the 8th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of John and Jessie Brealy of Batten Court, Fore Street, Cullompton. Born in Crediton in 1896. Died 25 September 1915 aged 19.
WILLIAM BUBEAR
27097 Private William John Bubear of the 8th Battalion, the Hampshire Regiment, transferred from the Devonshire Regiment. Son of the late John Bubear and Mrs Mary Jane Bubear; brother of Walter Bubear (see below). Born in Crediton in 1889.  Died 20 September 1917 aged 28.
WALTER BUBEAR
241313 Private Walter George Bubear of the 1st Battalion, the Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment). Son of the late John Bubear and Mrs Mary Jane Bubear; brother of William Bubear (see above). Born in Crediton in the June Quarter of 1894. Died 29 August 1918 aged 24.
ERNEST BURRIDGE
265775 Private Ernest William Burridge of the 6th Battalion the Welsh Regiment. Son of William and Jessie Burridge of Park Street, Crediton; husband of Lydia A, M Burridge of Pontardulas, Glamorgan. Born in Crediton in the December Quarter of 1888. Died 27 October 1917 aged 29.
FRED BURRIDGE
Believed to be Frederick Burridge of Park Street, Crediton,, son of  William and Jessie Burridge and brother of Ernest Burridge (see above) but not yet confirmed. Believed also to have been a sergeant in the Devonshire Regiment. Awarded the DCM.
FREDERICK CANN
8974 Private Frederick Cann of the 2nd Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Samuel and Mary Cann. Born in Crediton in the March Quarter of 1893. Died 1 July 1916 aged 23.
WILLIAM CHAMBERLAIN
40315 Private William Henry Chamberlain of the 4th Battalion, the Worcestershire Regiment, transferred from the Devon Cyclists. Son of William and Eliza Chamberlain of Crediton. Born in Crediton in the December Quarter of 1892. Died 3 January 1917 aged 25.
WILLIAM CHARLTON
351054 Sick Berth Steward William Charles Charlton of the Royal Navy, HMS Hyacinth. Husband of Laura Ellen Charlton (née Setter) of Crediton. Born in Bromsgrove11 May 1881. Died 17 January 1918 aged 36.
PERCY COLES
4445 Private Percy James Coles of the 9th Battalion, the East Surrey Regiment. Son of James and Mary Ann Coles of 28 Dean Street, Crediton. Born in Crediton in the September Quarter of 1894. Died 1 September 1916 aged 22. 
ROBERT COLES
7043 Lance Corporal Robert Coles of the 2nd Battalion, the Coldstream Guards. Son of William and Emma Coles. Born in Shobrooke, Crediton in the March Quarter of 1887. Died 18 September 1914 aged 27.
W. COLWILL
The death of Private W. J. Colwill at Western Lodge Military Hospital in Crediton  from double pneumonia was reported in the Crediton Chronicle 24 April 1915. At the time, his parents were reported as living at Horncross, Bideford. Other details are not yet confirmed.
WILLIAM CONABEER
18259 Lance Corporal William George Conabeer of the 20th Coy, the Machine Gun Corps (Infantry). Parents not yet confirmed.  Born in Crediton in the June Quarter of 1893. Died 26 June 1916 aged 23. 
GEORGE COOPER
41634 Private George Cooper of the 7th/8th Battalion, the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers,  but formerly 51452 Private Cooper of the Devonshire Regiment. Son of the late George Cooper and Bessie Cooper formerly of Crediton.. Born in Crediton in the June Quarter of 1898 but went to live in Exeter. Died 16 August 1917 aged 19.
JAMES COURTNAY
(also known as COURTNEY)

8100 Private James Courtnay of the 1st Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Parents not yet confirmed. Born in Crediton in the June Quarter of 1887. Died 29 April 1915 aged 28. 

GEORGE CROSSMAN
78365 Private George Crossman of the 1st Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Robert and Louisa Crossman. Born in Sandford, Credition, in the September Quarter of 1888. No further details have been confirmed.
