H. J. ANDREWS
Telegraphist Herbert John Andrews of the Royal Navy, HMS Thunderer. Son of William and Anne Andrews. Born in East Allington in the September Quarter of 1898. Died at home 2 October 1918 aged 20. Buried in East Allington churchyard.
W. J. BLANK
Leading Seaman William J. Blank of the Royal Navy, HMS Indefatigable. Son of John Tucker Blank and Eliza Jane (née Bullen). Born in East Allington 3 September 1880. Died at the Battle of Jutland 31 May 1916 aged 26.
G. CREBER
Private George Henry Creber of the 1st/5th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of William and Rose Creber and brother of Gilbert (see below). Born in East Allington in the June Quarter of 1890. Died in Mesopotamia 6 August 1916 aged 26.
G. CREBER
Seaman Gilbert Arthur Creber of the Royal Navy, HMS Defence. Son of William and Rose Creber and brother of George (see above). Born in East Allington in the March Quarter of 1897. Died at the Battle of Jutland 31 May 1916 aged 19.
H. A. CUBITT

Ranmere Church in Surrey contains a memorial chapel dedicated to Captain Henry Cubitt and his brothers. They are commemorated here because their family had many associations with East Allington. The 1st Lord Ashcombe held the living of this parish and there was a connection between Fallapit House and William Cubitt.

George Cubitt, 1st Baron Ashcombe and Grandfather of the three young men remembered here became the Great Grandfather of Camilla , Duchess of Cornwall, through his grandson, Roland, who became heir to the title after the deaths of his three older brothers.)

Captain Henry Arthur Cubitt of the Coldstream Guards. Son of Henry Cubbit, 2nd Baron Ashcombe and his wife Maud (née Calvert).  Brother of Alick and Hugh (see below). Born in London 3 January1892. Died on the Western Front 16 September 1916 aged 24.

Lieutenant Alick George Cubitt Cubitt of the 15th Hussars. Son of Henry Cubbit, 2nd Baron Ashcombe and his wife Maud (née Calvert). Brother of Henry (see above) and Hugh (see below). Born in London 16 January 1894. Died on the Western Front 24 November 1917 aged 23.
W. H. CUBITT
Lieutenant (William) Hugh Cubitt of the 1st Dragoons. Son of Henry Cubbit, 2nd Baron Ashcombe and his wife Maud (née Calvert). Brother of Henry and Alick (see above). Born in London 30 May 1896. Died on the Western Front 24 March 1918 aged 21.

Private Adolphus Vicroyal Edmonds of the 10th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of James and Melinda Edmonds. Born in East Allington in the March Quarter of 1895. Died in the Balkans 2 August 1916 aged 21.

Private Walter Windsor ("Jack") Elliott of the 1st Battalion, the Hampshire Regiment. Parents not yet known. Born in the Honiton area in the September Quarter of 1895. Died on the Western Front 22 April 1918 aged 22.
H. C. FOX
Private Herbert Charles Fox of the 8th Battalion, the Dorsetshire Regiment. Son of George and Mary Fox. Born in Kingston in the September Quarter of 1892. Died in Newcastle 24 December 1917 aged  25.
A. LUSCOMBE
Able Seaman Arthur Luscombe of the Royal Navy, HMS Theseus and HMS Vivid. Son of John and Maria Luscombe.  Born in East Allington 25 March 1881. Died at home 30 May 1920 aged 41. Buried in East Allington churchyard - his stone describes  him as being from HMS Vivid..
C. E. JOHNS
Private Charles Edwin Johns of the 1st Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Henry and Catherine Johns. Born in Sherford in the September Quarter of 1892. Died at Cosham, Portsmouth, 23 May 1915 aged 22.
A. K. N. NEPEAN
Private Arthur Kennard Nanspean Nepean of the 6th Battalion, the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. Son of Algernon and Louisa Nepean. Born in Woodleigh in the June Quarter of 1896. Died in London 29 December 1917 aged 21. Buried in East Allington churchyard.
W. E. PENNY
Petty officer William E. Penny of the Royal Navy, HMS Benbow. Son of Samuel and Francis Penny. Born in East Allington in the June Quarter of 1884. Died at Devonport 21 November 1914 aged 30. Buried in St. Leonard's churchyard, Halwell.
A. J. PROWSE
Private Anthony John Prowse of the 3rd (King's Own) Hussars. Son of Peter and Augusta Prowse. Born in Ringmore in the September Quarter of 1890. Died at Boulogne 13 November 1914 aged 24.
W. H. QUICK
Chief Petty Officer William Henry Quick of the Royal Navy, HMS Dartmouth. Son of Abraham and Mary Jane Quick. Born in East Allington 3 January 1878. Died at home 13 May 1918 aged 40. Buried in East Allington churchyard.
G. ROPER
Lance Corporal George Frederick Roper of the Royal Engineers. Son of George and Mary Jane Roper; husband of Lily May Roper (née Hutchings) of Rosebank, East Allington. Born in East Allington in the March Quarter of 1893. Died at home 3 October 1916 aged 23. Buried in East Allington churchyard.
F. J. SERCOMBE
Private Francis J. Sercombe of the 9th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of John and Helen Sercombe. Born in Blackawton in the March Quarter of 1896. Died on the Western Front between the 4th and 6th of September 1916 aged 20.
F. J. SOPER
Private Frederick ("Fred") Soper of the 8th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Fred and Bessie Soper. Born in East Allington in the June Quarter of 1892. Died on the Western Front 20 July 1915 aged 23. 
P. STONE
Private Philip James Hurrell Stone formerly of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, latterly transferred to the 8th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment.. Son of Samuel and Elizabeth Stone. Born in East Allington in the June Quarter of 1888. Died  on the Western Front 27 March 1917 aged 30. The war memorial gives the year of his death as 1918; the information we give here has come from "Soldiers Died" published by the War Office.
H. TORR
Private Harold Torr of Hood Battalion, the Royal Naval Division. Son of John and Sarah Torr. Born in East Allington in the June Quarter of 1894. Died on the Western Front 22 October 1917 aged 23.
A. YABSLEY
Lance Corporal Arthur Ernest Yabsley of the 9th Battalion, the Cheshire Regiment. Son of George and Emily Yabsley and brother of Charles Herbert Yabsley of Bowden, Blackawton. Born in Blackawton in the December Quarter of 1894. Died at Etaples 16 May 1917 aged 22.

 

1939 - 1945

J. H. G. TORR

Lieutenant James Henry Charles Torr ("Harry") of the Royal Naval Reserve, HMS Dunoon. Son of William and Bessie Torr. Born in East Allington in the June Quarter of 1908. Died at Harwich 30 April 1940 aged 32. (Harold Torr whose death in the First War is recorded above, was this man's uncle.)

Note:

HMS Dunoon was a minesweeper. While working on a sweep, Dunoon struck a mine off Great Yarmouth causing one of the ammunition magazines to explode. The Captain, (Lt. Commander Barclay), Lieutenant Torr, Sub-Lieutenant Hill and 25 ratings lost their lives when the ship sank.
