Son of William and the late Eliza Ackland (née Mogridge) of Braunton and husband of Gertrude Ellen Ackland (née Fewins) of 104 East John Street, Exeter. Born in Braunton in the June Quarter of 1881. Died 24 Jan 1918 aged 36.

200185 Quartermaster Sergeant John Henry Burchell of the 4th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of James and Martha Burchell of London; husband of Alice Rose Burchell of 1 Danes Road, Exeter. Born in Lambeth in the March Quarter of 1871. Died 9 May 1921 aged 50. Served in the Chitral Expedition and the South African Campaign. Held the Long Service and Good Conduct Medals. Buried in the Higher Cemetery, Exeter.

171470 2nd Lieutenant Harold Wallace Burnet of the Royal Horse Artillery.Son of David and Rosabelle Burnet,  formerly of 9 Clifton Hill, Exeter; husband of Marjorie N Burnet (née Raybould).  Born in Bootle, Lancs in the September Quarter of 1870.  Died in the December Quarter of 1917 aged 47. Burial place not known.

5057 Private Robert Arthur Elliot Carter of the 59th Battalion, the Australian Infantry. Son of George James and Mary Carter of Rosebrook, Horsham, Victoria, Australia. Born in Horsham AU in 1890. Died 10 September 1918 aged 26. An Australian citizen, he sailed on HMAT Suffolk 1 April 1916 having previously been a grazier in Horsham - he was not married.

Son of Alfred John and the late Sarah Alma Carter: husband of Gertrude Alice Carter (née Morrish) of 8 St Davids Terrace, Exeter. Born in Exeter in the March Quarter of 1882. Died 21 August 1919 aged 37. Buried in the Higher Cemetery, Exeter.

Born in reading in the September Quarter of 1885. Died 2 August 1917 aged 32.  Buried in the Higher Cemetery, Exeter.

L. COCKLE

172860 Sapper Lewis ("Louis" in GRO) Cockle of the Inland Waterways Transport Corps, the Royal Engineers. Son of George and Ann Cockle formerly of Bristol, latterly of Stroud; husband of Mary Maria Cockle (née Simmons). Birth date (see below). Died 22 March 1918 aged 46*. Buried in the Higher Cemetery, Exeter.

*Louis or Lewis, the son of George and Ann Cockle was born in Bristol, Clifton, in the March Quarter of 1868  His Army record states that he was 47 on enlistment on 20 May 1916.

14417 Private Robert Cole of the Hampshire Regiment. Family details not yet confirmed. Died 3 August 1920. Buried in the Higher Cemetery, Exeter.

76978 Leading Aircraftsman George Collett of the RAF. Husband of Violet May Collett (née Weston) of 69 Clifton Street, Exeter. Died 20 February 1919. Buried in the Higher Cemetery, Exeter.

J/41979 Ordinary Seaman Sidney Charles Collins of the Royal Navy, HMS P41*. Son of Albert Cornelius and Alice Maud Collins of 29A Magdalen Street, Exeter. Born in Exeter 22 November 1898. Died 10 May 1918 aged 19.  Buried in the Higher Cemetery, Exeter.

*This man was accidentally drowned while serving on Patrol Boat 41.

2690 Sergeant Cuthbert Charles Colwill of the 2nd/1st Devon and Cornwall Bridging Company, the Army Service Corps. Son of the late Henry Colwill and Elizabeth Ann Colwill of 1 Cambridge Terrace, Well Street, Exeter. Born in Exeter in the June Quarter of 1890. Died 28 April 1917 aged 27. Buried in the Higher Cemetery, Exeter.
