59836 Private George H. Babb of the 5th Battalion, the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Son of Emily and the late Clement Babb. Born in Halberton in 1900. Died 8 November 1918 aged 18. Buried in St. Andrews Churchyard, Halberton.

34057 Private Frank Hayman Bowerman of the 2nd Battalion, the Essex Regiment. Son of Henry and Mary Ann Bowerman. Born in Starcross in 1899. Died 10 October 1917 aged 18.

Nurse Winifred Katherine of the VAD. Daughter of Major J.O.English and his wife Florence. Born in Halberton in 1890. Died 24 February 1915 aged 25  at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital of illness contracted while nursing wounded soldiers there.

11892 Private Arthur Staddon of the 2nd Battalion, the Irish Guards.  Son of Willie and Louisa Staddon. Born in Stoke Canon in the June Quarter of 1898. Died 13 April 1918 aged 20.

(M25003) RNVR 9329 AB William Francis Stone of the Royal Navy. Son of William and Rosa Stone. Born in Cheriton Fitzpaine 23 August 1890. Died 27 February 1919 of illness while awaiting demobilisation at shorebase HMS Victory II aged 29

16481 Private Stanley George Snell of the 8th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of James and Jane Snell. Born in Halberton in 1896. Died 6 November 1916 aged 20. 
S.WALLACE

(This has been a very difficult soldier to find. He is believed to have been baptised as Steward Wallace. Connecting him to Halberton is based on his being connected to Rock Hill House whose residents at the start of the war were called Wallace. His body was never found and his wealthy family erected their own memorial in France over the spot where he was believed to have fallen.)

 

Captain Houston Stewart Hamilton Wallace of the 10th Battalion, the Worcestershire Regiment. Son of William and Emily Wallace. Believed to have  been born in Birkenhead in 1892. Died 22 July 1916 aged 24.

8293 Private Frank Ernest James Wheeler of the 2nd Battalion, the Norfolk Regiment. Son of Charles and Florence Wheeler of Higher Town, Halberton. Born in Halberton in the December Quarter of 1893, but lived in Bury St Edmunds. Died 8 November 1914 aged 21.
