E. REGINALD COPP
3rd Engineer Ernest Reginald Copp of the Mercantile Marine, *SS Santa Amalia (London). Son of Thomas and Edith Ann Copp (née Cox) of Moortown Farm, Torrington. Born in Ilfracombe in the June Quarter of 1891. Died 28 December 1917 aged 26.

*Steam tanker. Torpedoed and sunk by U19 off Malin Head.

WILLIAM J. COUSINS
Believed to be 775467 Private William John Cousins of the 116th Battalion, the Canadian Infantry who died 12 August 1918 aged 34.

William and Charlotte Cousins of Morthoe had a son of this name who was born in Ilfracombe in the June Quarter of 1884.

SAMUEL J. COWLER
1122 Private Samuel John Cowler of the 6th Battalion, the Welsh Regiment who was killed 1 May 1916. His family have not yet been traced.

9757 Private Walter Crang of the 1st Battalion, the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. Son of the late Charlie and Frances Crang (née Litson); husband of Mabel Crang of 3 Highfield Road, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe in the September of 1885. Died 22 May 1915 aged 29.

Bristol Z/1486 Able Seaman Walter Crang  of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, HMS Stephen Furness*. Son of Walter and Lucie Crang of "Ohinda", Ilfracombe; husband of Mabel Crang of 3 Highfield Road, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe in the March Quarter of 1888. Died 13 December 1917 aged 30. 

*HMS Stephen Furness , an armed boarding steamer, was sunk by submarine UB64 in the Irish Channel with the loss of 6 officers and 95 men.

GEORGE N. CURRY
4157 Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant George Norman Curry of the 3rd (King's Own) Hussars. Son of Harriet Curry (née Norman) of Ilfracombe and the late Thomas Curry. Born in Taunton in the September Quarter of 1875. Died 26 May 1916 aged 40. Buried in the churchyard of Holy Trinity, Ilfracombe.

9410 Private Cecil Waldron Quick Curtis of the 23rd Field Ambulance, the Royal Army Medical Corps. Son of Frederick and Harriet Curtis of Ilfracombe; husband of Alice May Curtis of 32 Birchgrove, Nantybwch, Tredegar, Monmouthshire. Born in Ilfracombe in the June Quarter of 1894. Died 5 September 1916 aged 22.

30380 Private Alfred Francis Dadds ("Frank") of the 1st Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Charlotte Mason (formerly Dadds) of Bicclescombe, Ilfracombe and the late Robert Dadds. Born in Ilfracombe in the June Quarter of 1897. Died 4 October 1917 aged 20.

16802 Private Thomas William Dyer of the 14th Company, the Machine Gun Corpts. Son of James and Elizabeth Mary Dyer of Luscombe, Lee, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe in the December Quarter of 1895. Died 18 November 1916 aged 21.

24663 Private (Albert) Edwin Few of the 7th Battalion, the Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment, formerly 24791 of the 20th Battalion, the Royal Fusiliers. Son of Albert and Harriet Few of 35 Greenclose Road, Ilfracombe. Born in Poulshot, Wilts, in the December Quarter of 1891. Died 11 October 1917 aged 25.

2nd Lieutenant Alfred Montague Foley of the 11th Battalion, the Royal Sussex Regiment. Son of Alfred Edward and Alice Edith Foley of 7 Chambercombe Terrace, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe in the September Quarter of 1896. Died 3 August 1916 aged 20.
ROBERT H. FORDHAM
3657 Robert Henry Fordham of the 13th Hussars; attached to the 2nd Life Guards. Son of Robert and Jane Fordham of Ilfracombe; husband of Edith Ellen of Brynderwan Cottage, Greenhill, Rhubina, Cardiff. Born in Ilfracombe in the September Quarter of 1887. Died 3 March 1915 aged 27.

20129 Private Alfred John Foxford of the 5th Battalion, the Wiltshire Regiment. Son of Elijah and Ann Foxford of Metcombe; husband of Florence Foxham of 7 York Place, Brandon Hill, Bristol. Born in West Down in the June Quarter of 1883. Died 13 April 1916 aged 33.

2nd Lieutenant Eric Mawdsley Gardner attached to the 1st Battalion, the Somerset Light Infantry, formerly with the 19th Battalion, the Royal Fusiliers. Son of Henry Mawdsley and Mildred Gardner of Brooklands, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe in the September Quarter of 1895. Died 10 April 1917 aged 21.

26/149 Rifleman Arthur george Gibbings of the 4th and 3rd Battalions, the New Zealand Rifle Corps.  Sonb of Lieutenant John Gibbings RN and his wife Jane of Richmond Avenue, Ilfracombe. Born in Littlehampton, Sussex in 1891. Died 12 September 1916 aged 26.

12014 Private William John T. Gibbs of the 2nf Battalion, the Coldstream Guards. Son of Mary Gibbs of 33 Church Street, Ilfracombe and the late John Gibbs. Born in Ilfracombe in the March Quarter of 1891. Died 16 September 1916 aged 24.

A/466 Driver William James Govier of the Army Service Corps. Son of Emily Mary Govier of Neva Cottages, High Street, Ilfracombe and the late George Govier. Born in Ilfracombe in the March Quarter of 1894. Died 21 August 1917 aged 23.

66338 2nd Corporal Walter Gush of 23 Divisional Signal Company, the Royal Engineers. Son of Walter James Wells and Elizabeth Frances Gush of Marine Cottage, Beer. Born in Beer in the March Quarter of 1890. Died 17 November 1918 aged 25. Awarded the Military Medal and Bar.

GEORGE H. HEWITT
His military record is not yet confirmed but he may be 203584 Private Hewitt of the Army Service Corps who died 3 October 1918. Thought to have been born in 1881 and married to Lily Hewitt of 21 Fore Street, Ilfracombe.
LIONEL W HILL
7/2269 Private Lionel Were Hill of the 2nd Battalion, the Canterbury regiment, the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Son of Charles and Mary Hill of Lee, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe in the June Quarter of 1895. Died 1 October 1916 aged 21.
ARTHUR HISCOCK
191423 Petty Officer Arthur Hiscock of the Royal Navy, HMS Submarine D2*. Son of the late Mr and Mrs. G. Hiscock of Walthamstow; husband of Emmaline Hiscock of 8 Chambercombe Road, Ilfracombe. Born in Tottenham 14 May 1880. Died 1 December 1914 aged 34. Awarded the DSM.

*Rammed and sunk by a German Patrol Boat - there were no survivors. In another incident, the ship's commanding officer was washed overboard  two days before the sinking.

2nd Lieutenant John Hamilton Morris Hooper of the 1st/16th Battalion, the London Regiment (the Queen's Rifles). Son of George Giffard Hooper and Felinda Hooper of Mirimar, Crofts Lea Park, Ilfracombe. Born at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, London in the September Quarter of 1891. Died 30 November 1917 aged 26.
ARTHUR HORRELL
9714 Private Arthur  Horrell of the 2nd Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Adopted son of Mrs. F. Mansfield of 7 Fore Street, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe in 1895. Died 6 February 1915 aged 20.
ERNEST J. HORRELL
Believed to have been born in Ilfracombe in 1874. 2nd Lieutenant Ernest Horrell of the 3rd Battalion, the Somerset light infantry (Prince Albert's Regiment). Died 10 April 1917. aged 43.
HARRY G HUSSELL
1102 Private Harry George Hussell of the 1st Battalion, the Royal North Devon Hussars. Son of John and Ellen Hussell of Fortescue Road, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe in the March Quarter of 1892. Died 19 February 1916 aged 24.
CLARENCE P. IMPEY
3339 Private Clarence Percy Impey of the 4th Regiment, the South Afrivan Infantry. Son of Frank Whitby Impey of 66  St. Brannock's Park, Ilfracombe and the late Clarissa Impey. Born in the Cape Colony, South Africa in 1894. Died 12 July 1916 aged 22.
THOMAS B. IRELAND
211825 Bosun Thomas Berry Ireland of the Royal Navy, HMS Monmouth. Son of Thomas Berry and Eliza Ann Ireland of Ilfracombe. Born in St Mary's, Scilly Isles, 20 May 1885. Died 1 November 1914 aged 29. Served in the South African War.
