R.G.NEWBERY
G/ 11087 Private Robert George Newbery of the 11th Battalion, the Middlesex Regiment. Son of John and Bessie Newbery of Woodbeers Cottage. Born in Membury in 1896. Died 3 March 1916 aged 19.

Recently, Robert Newbery's Victory Medal has been discovered and returned to the village through the generosity of the Honiton man who had purchased it.

N.APLIN
10286 Private Noah Aplin of the 8th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Noah and Sarah Jane Aplin of Turn Moor. Born in Membury in the March Quarter of 1889. Died 25 September 1915 aged 26.
J.F.FRANCIS
440971 Sergeant (Frederick) John Francis of the 53rd Battalion, the Canadian Infantry. Son of Henry and Mary Francis of Curry Rivel, near Taunton.  Born in April 1892 and baptised as John Frederick Francis. Died of quinsy  9 April 1916 aged 23.
C.HORNER
Charles Horner of the Mercantile Marine, serving as a Fireman on board HMS Alcantra. Son of Henry and Ellen Horner of Southampton. Born in 1898. Killed in the action with SMS Greif 29 February 1916 aged 18.
E.HORNER
5121 Lance Corporal Ernest George Horner of the 10th Battalion, the Australian Infantry. Son of George and Mary Horner; husband of Margaret Horner. Born in Yarcombe in the December Quarter of 1888. Died 24 April 1918 aged 30. No known burial place.
G.H.LONG
23731 Private George H. Long of the 8th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of William and Eliza Long. Born in Membury in the September Quarter of 1894 but lived in Chard. Died 8 August 1917 aged 23.
W.R.PARKER
23686 Corporal William Robert Parker of the 5th Reserve Squadron of the Royal Flying Corps. (his mother remarried and his stepfather's name is not yet known) He was born in Yarcombe in the December Quarter of  1892. Died 24 January 1917. Buried in the Southern Cemetery, Manchester.
W.J.SALWAY
10287  Corporal William John Salway of the 8th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Samuel and Selina Salway; brother of Roland (see below). Born in Rotherham, Yorkshire in the September Quarter of 1891. Died 1 July 1916 aged 25.
F.HARRIS

Information kindly supplied by a family member:

25221 Private Frank Harris of the 12th Battalion, the South Wales Borderers. Son of William and Amelia Harris.  Born in Membury 26th August 1895. Died in hospital 28 October 1916 aged 21.

R.SALWAY
10290 Private Roland Salway of the 8th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment; brother of William (see above). Born in Rotherham, Yorkshire in 1894. Died at home 29 September 1914 aged 20.
