This plaque could be restored (by an expert) at a modest charge but after this is done, hide, and never use again, the tins of Brasso which have brought it to its present dire state.

16683 Private George Balch of the 9th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Brother of J. Balch of Merton; Son of the late William and Ellen Balch. Born in Merton 12 July 1893. Died 1 July 1916 aged 23.
W.BASTOW
20800 Private William Bastow of the 1st Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Emily Bastow of "Solwill", Merton. Born in Merton in 1896. Died 23 April 1917 aged 21.

12586 Private Frederick J. Blight of "A" Coy, the 8th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Caroline Blight of the Almshouses, Filleigh and the late Frederick Blight. Born in 1891. Died 25 September 1915 aged 24.

1680 Private Frank Cox of the 6th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of William and Elizabeth Cox.  Born in Hatherleigh in 1883 but lived in Bideford for some time. Died 8 March 1916 aged 33.

322720 Gunner George Lake, the 27th Siege Battery, the Royal Garrison Artillery. Son of Richard and Mary Jane Lake of Eastbeare Farm. Merton. Born in Buckland Brewer in 1897. Died 5 September 1917 aged 20.

241323 Private Mark Luxton the Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment. Son of Samuel and Alice Luxton of Higheridge, Merton. Born in Merton in 1895. Died 4 October 1917 aged 23.
