280689 Chief Petty Officer Blacksmith James Kennard of the Royal Navy, HMS Monmouth.  Son of James and Annie Kennard. Born in Ugborough 3 May1875. Died 1 November 1914 aged 39 when HMS Monmouth was sunk during the Battle of Coronel.
J.HOWARD
10759 Private James Howard of the Royal Marine Light Infantry, serving on board HMS Monmouth which sank during the Battle of Coronel. He died on 1 November 1914. No other facts seem to be available about this man.

11327 Private Alfred Hurrell of the 11th Battalion , the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Frank and Hannah Hurrell of Galpin Street, Modbury. Born in Ugborough in 1886. Died 16 February 1915 aged 29. Buried in Paignton Cemtery.

143536 Chief Petty Officer John Lewis Bunker of the Royal Navy, HMS Goliath. Son of John and Ellen Bunker. Actually born 3 December 1894 but gave the year as 1896 when he joined the Navy. Died 13 May 1915 aged 19 when his ship was lost.
