Today, Devonport Dockyard is thought of as an integral part of of Plymouth but in the past, it was very much part of the Royal Navy and as such, was not policed by local men but by men brought in from outside. This link between the Metropolitan Police Force and the Dockyard is commemorated at the Devonport Dockyard Police Museum.
