The former Uffculme Station

The line at Uffculme ran from Tiverton Junction to Hemyock and dated from 1876. It soon gained a local reputation for being one of the slowest train lines in the country, ambling along through remote countryside, picking up and setting down milk churns at numerous little home-made wooden platforms alongside the track, taking almost an hour to cover 7½ miles - even in the 20th century! The line's ultimate closure in 1963 became inevitable.
