C.A.BRADFORD
Captain Cecil Aubrey Bradford of the West African Frontier Force, attached to the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Lt.Colonel and Mrs M. Bradford of Welparke, Lustleigh; husband of Grace Bradford. Born in Holsworthy 20 February 1886. Drowned 24 April 1917 aged 31. He was travelling to a new posting when the passenger ship he was on - SS Abosso - was torpedoed off Fastnet without warning by a German submarine.

Died 16 September 1916 aged 26.

51356 Acting Corporal Percival Ellis of the 16th Battalion, the Chshire Regiment; formerly 3/28320, the RASC. Son of Richard and Emma Ellis of the Three Horse Shoes Public House; brother of Ben and Richard (see above). Born in Upton Pyne in 1892. Died 6 April 1918 aged 26.

79160 Lance Sergeant Wallace Hugh Chalker of "D" Coy, the 31st Battalion, the Canadian Infantry. Son of James and Bessie Chalker of the Water Works, Upton Pyne. Born in 1882. Died 9 June 1916 aged 34.

Private Thomas Forward of the 1st Battalion, the Australian Infantry Force. Son of Thomas and the late Hannah Forward. Born in Shobrooke in 1885. Died 2 May 1915 aged 30.

30456 Private William Cecil Hawkins of the 8th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of William and Bertha Hawkins of Duriyard Wood Farm, Upton Pyne.  Born in Upton Pyne in 1898. Died 3 April 1917 aged 19.

14816 Lance Corporal Charles H. Stoneman of the 16th (Royal Devon and Royal North Devon Yeomanry) Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of William and Charlotte Stoneman. Born in Upton Pyne in 1894. Died 6 October 1918 aged 24.

8710 Lance Corporal  (registered as John Alfred Wyatt) Alfred J. Wyatt of the 1st Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of John and Mary Ann Wyatt. Born in Newton St. Cyres in 1890. Died 9 December 1914 aged 24.

1789 Private Lionel Francis Bamsey of the 2nd/7th Battalion, the Hampshire Regiment. Son of Ida Bamsey; husband of Florence Bamsey of Moel Cottage, Bow. Born in Upton Pyne in 1894. Died 5 February 1919 aged 25, in the UK.

56919 Gunner Alfred Eli Perkins of 129th Siege Battery, the Royal Garrison Artillery. Son of Elizabeth and the late Eli Leach Perkins. Born in the December Quarter of 1897. Died 30 July 1919 aged 21. Buried in Upton Pyne Churchyard.
