Over
the years, we have had good reason to be very grateful to Stentiford
descendent Roy Hewitt for the work he has done on creating Memorial
pages for family members who fell in the two World Wars. Not only has
he written about them, he has visited the battle field cemeteries with
his wife Pat, and together, they have placed poppies at the monuments
or war graves where each of these men is remembered. Very few, if
any, relatives would have had an opportunity to travel to France
to do this for their loved ones in the last century.
In
this Issue, we remember two more family members commemorated by Roy
and Pat and a third man, William Stenniford, whose memorial was found,
almost by chance, by a friend of Roy's - Eddie Lyons, who also has our
thanks. Eddie knew that Roy was interested in Stentiford memorials
and, on a visit of his own to a battle field cemetery, just happened
to notice this odd variation of the name which he photographed. He
contacted Roy on his return home and helped to unearth a very complex
Stentiford name-change trail indeed.

in touch,
