A granite cross set into a shaped block of the same material is mounted on a square block. One side of the shaped block has been planed to hold the wording.

ARTHUR BOWLES
16942 Private Arthur William Bowles of the 9th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Albert and Elizabeth Bowles. Born in Cirencester in the September Quarter of 1892. Died 1 July 1916 aged 23. His connection with Bratton Clovelly is not yet known but he enlisted in Okehampton.
ALEXANDER BROWN
11045 Private Alexander Brown of the 11th Battalion, the Middlesex Regiment. Died 5 March 1916. Nothing else is yet known of this man.
ALFRED HUTCHESON
15587 Private Alfred William Hutcheson of the 2nd Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Father of W. A. Hutcheson of "Clovelly" Shenley Rd., Far Bletchley, Bucks. Born in Cambridge. Died 1 July 1916 aged 36. His address on enlistment was given as  Lew Down.
NICHOLAS PALMER
27752 Private Nicholas Palmer of the 6th Battalion, the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. Son of Nicholas (Tailor and Sub-Postmaster) and Agnes Palmer of the Post Office, Bratton Clovelly. Born in the December Quarter of 1887 in Bratton Clovelly. Died 23 August 1917 aged 29.
CECIL PIKE
345695 Private Cecil John Pike of the 16th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment (The Royal Devon and North Devon Yeomanry). Son of Lucy and Frederick William Pike of Hatherleigh. Born in the March Quarter of 1898 in Hatherleigh. Died 3 December 1917 aged 19. His connection with Bratton Clovelly is not yet known.
