2nd Lieutenant Edward Athelstan Halford of the Wiltshire Regiment. (Tom Venn states that his father was at one time Curate of Holy Cross, Crediton). Born in New Barnet in the March Quarter of 1898. On leaving school, he joined the Wiltshire Regiment and was sent to the Military School at Farnham to qualify as a pilot. He gained his Aviator's Certificate 9 December 1915, flying a Maurice Farman Biplane. He was then attached to the newly-formed Royal Flying Corps and flew several missions before crashing over Germany and being taken prisoner. He was sent to Holland for internment and is believed to have spent the remainder of the war there. |

2nd Lieutenant Sidney Herbert Morgan of the 12th Battalion, the East Surrey Regiment, attached to the 122nd Trench Mortar Battery. Son of Rees John Morgan and his wife Eliza (his father was the manager of the National Provincial Bank in Crediton for a while and, as was the custom then, the family lived above the Bank premises in the High Street.) Born in Salisbury, Wiltshire in the March Quarter of 1887. Died 4 April 1917 aged 30. |

Lieutenant Colonel John William Jessop, commanding 1st/4th Battalion, the Lincolnshire Regiment. (Tom Venn states that he arrived in France in April 1915 having been Medical Officer until transferred to the combatant category.) He was the son of Major and Mrs. Charles Scott Jessop of The Mount, Crediton; husband of Marian Jessop of Woodhall Spa, Lincs. Died 4 June 1915 aged 55. |
J. TEAGUE |
Captain John Cockburn Teague of the Royal Marines, Portsmouth Battalion, Royal Naval Division. Son of the Rev. John Jessop Teague and his wife Elizabeth (his father was the Chaplain of the Collegiate Church, Crediton); brother of Charles Teague (see below). Born in London in 1881. Died 1 May 1915 aged 34. |

Lance Corporal Charles Middlemore Teague of the 1st/14th Battalion, the London Regiment (the London Scottish). Son of the Rev. John Jessop Teague and his wife Elizabeth (his father was the Chaplain of the Collegiate Church, Crediton); brother of John Teague (see above). Born in Crediton in the December Quarter of 1888. Died 13 October 1915 aged 27. |
G. WATSON |
Captain George Carr Watson of the 6th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Guy and Emma Watson of Thirsk, Yorkshire. Born in Sunderland in the March Quarter of 1887. Died 8 March 1916 aged 30; commemorated on the Basra Memorial.
George Watson was an MA who, at some point, taught at the Queen Elizabeth School. At the time of his enlistment, he was Classical Tutor at Colston's College, Bristol. |
