Pilot officer (Pilot) Francis James Adams of the RAF Volunteer Reserve. Son of James and Jane Adams of Salcombe. Born in Salcombe in the December Quarter of 1910. Died 16 September 1942 aged 31.

T/175985 Driver William Edward Bennett of the Royal Army Service Corps. Son of William and Elizabeth bennett; husband of Hilda May Bennett (née Larcombe)  of Salcombe.  Born in Plymouth in the June Quarter of 1901. Died 14 July 1946 aged 45. Died in the UK. Buried in the  Bonfire Hill Cemetery.

Believed to be D/MX 64403 Shipwright 4th Class Charles Albert Thomas Cheeseman of the Royal Navy, HMS Jaguar. Parents not yet identified. Born in Salcoombe in the June Quarter of 1919. Died 26 March 1942 aged 23  in the sinking of his ship.

\D/SMX 214 Shipwright 4th Class Herbert Easton Dornom of the Royal Navy, HMS Neptune. Son of Sidney and Mabel Dornom; husband of Agnes Dornom of Salcombe. Born in Salcombe in the June Quarter of 1914. Died in the sinking of his ship 19 December 1941 aged 27.

LT/JX 198842 Petty Officer Sidney James Fields of the Royal Naval Patrol service, HM Trawler Lord Stonehaven. Son of Thomas and Beatrice Field of Salcombe; husband of Elsie Field of Salcombe. Born in Salcombe in 1908. Died in the sinking of his ship 2 October 1942 aged 34.

Captain (Commodore, 2nd Class) Newell Herbert Gale DSO of the Royal Naval Reserve, HMS Eaglet. Son of William and Elizabeth Gale; husband of Ethel Gale of Salcombe. Born in Lancashire in 1887.  Died on board the  Athelsultan while acting as a convoy commodore sailing between Sidney AU and the UK. Killed 22 September 1942 aged 54 when his ship sank immediately after being torpedoed by U-617, Awarded the DSO and the RD*

*The Decoration for Officers of the Royal Naval Reserve (RD) was a medal awarded in the Naval Reserve to officers with at least fifteen years of active duty

49852 Major Alfred Loraine Gurney-Richmond of the 7th Battalion, the King's Shropshire Light Infantry. Stepson of Major J. H. Richmond of Salcombe; husband of Cynthis Gurney Richmond. Died 30 October 1940 aged 29. Buried in Salcombe Cemetery.

49589 Flying Officer (Pilot) Hedley Charles Jewell of the RAF Volunteer Reserve,45 Squadron,. Son of William and Meta Jewell and husband of Margaret Jewell of Salcombe. Born in Holsworthy in the March Quarter of 1914. Died 27 January 1944 aged 30.

D/JX 208775 Able Seaman Douglas Frank Partridge of the Royal Navy, HMS Alaunia. Son of William and Edith Partridge of Salcombe; believed to be the brother of Ernest (see below) Born in Devonport in the June Quarter of 1921. Died in of illness on board HMS Alaunia 17 October 1946 aged 25.

Details of this man's military career are not yet known. He is believed to be the son of William and Edith Partridge of Salcombe and therefore a brother of Douglas (see above). He was born in Salcombe in the June Quarter of 1919 and died in England in the December Quarter of 1946 aged 27.

D/K 66436 Leading Stoker Alfred Eli Roy Perring of the Royal Navy, HMS Itchen. Son of Alfred and Eliza Jane Perring. (His father was also a sailor).  Born in Stokenham in the September Quarter of 1907. Died 23 September 1943 aged 36.

Believed to  be 83453 Pilot Officer Robert Brook Redfern of the RAFVolunteer Reserve. Believed to have been born in Staffordshire in 1915. Died 8 March 1941. Killed on active service - cause never discovered.

122028 Lieutenant Edwatd George Reynolds of the Royal Army Medical Corps. Parents not yet identified. Born in Swansea in 1903. Died in the UK 4 March 1940. Buried in Salcombe Cemetery. A former resident of Salcombe.

77613 2nd Lieutenant Frank Arthur Victor Roberts of the 1st battalion, the Suffolk Regiment. Son of Commander Arthur Cecil Roberts, OBE; and his wife Amy Roberts (née Loveridge) of Salcombe. Born in Conway in the December Quarter of 1918.  Died 29 May 1940 aged 21 -  Mentioned in Dispatches.

Temporary Sub-Lieutenant Anthony Noel Sergeant of the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, HMS Hornet. Son of John and Isabel (née Macfarlane) Sergeant  Born in Wandsworth in the June Quarter of 1915. Died 11 October 1940 aged 25. Accidentally shot by a sailor on guard duty.

Lieutenant Michael Lynam de Courcy Stretton. Son of Michael Foyle de Courcy Stretton and his wife Camilla; husband of Rosemary Stretton of Twickenham. Born in the Newton Abbot registration district in the December Quarter of 1919. Died 14 August 1945 aged 25.
