SHALDON AND RINGMORE IN PIGOT'S DIRECTORY OF 1830

"Shaldon and Ringmore are two small villages opposite Teignmouth on the southern bank of the Teign river; Shaldon being seated under the loft, bold and picturesque promentary called "The Ness".

This pleasant village has lately become the residence of many respectable merchants and private families, who have tasteful residences scattered throughout the hamlet in beautiful situations.

Here is a chapel, erected about 150 years ago by the Carews of Haccombe, most charmingly situated a little above the Teign, about three quarters of a mile from the village; at the end of a walk through a grove of trees.

A ferry boat between Shaldon and Teignmouth is in constant requisition; and lately, a bridge has been erected opposite Ringmore - by which means a direct communication has been affected between Teignmouth, Shaldon and Torquay, for foot passengers and vehicles.

POST OFFICE: John Metherall, Post Master. Letters through Teignmouth arrive at nine in the morning and half-past six in the evening, and are despatched at half past seven in the morning and half-past four in the afternoon.
