PRIVATE F. STENTIFORD
"Mrs. Frank Stentiford of Chapel Downs Cottages, Crediton,
received a letter on Monday from Private Passmore of Crediton, informing
her that her husband, Private F. Stentiford of the Devons, had been
killed inaction. The next morning an official intimation was received
from the record office saying that Private F. Stentiford had fallen in
action on August 10th and expressing regret.
Private Stentiford was one of eight brothers, and the second to
fall in action*. He was employed before the war by Mr. J. M. Pope, of
the Barton, Copplestone. He enlisted in the early months of the war, and
in a very short time was sent to France where he has been ever since,
with the exception of one short leave. He took part in many thrilling
scenes. A wide circle of friends sympathise deeply with his widow and
her little daughter, also with his parents in the irreparable loss they
have sustained."
*We believe that Frank's brother Albert, the eldest son, may have been killed
during the 2nd Boer War.
