27326 Lance Corporal John William E. Irwin of the 2nd Battalion, the Hampshire Regiment. Son of John and Blanch Irwin of 50 High Street, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe in the December Quarter of 1895. Died 30 June 1917 aged 21.

863 Gunner Frank Arthur Jeffery of the 116th Siege Battery, the Royal Garrison Artillery. Son of William Thomas Jeffery of 3 Alderman's Meadow, Leominster and the late Elizabeth Ann Jeffery (née Branch). Born in Ilfracombe in the June Quarter of 1889. Died 22 April 1917 aged 27.

Military history not yet confirmed. Son of Kate Jeffery of 17 Victoria Road, Ilfracombe and the late Thomas William Jeffery. Born in Ilfracombe in the December Quarter of 1888.

Born in Ilfracombe in the December Quarter of 1886. .Died 2 April 1918 aged 31.

39080 Sergeant Gilbert George Jewell of the 10th Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment.  Son of John and Mary Jane Jewell of 3 St. Brannock's Road, Ilfracombe; brother of John (above).  Born in Ilfracombe in the March Quarter of 1891. Died 20 November 1916 aged 25.

39036 Corporal Reginald Jewell of 174 Siege Battery, The Royal Garrison Artillery. Son of John and Mary Ann Jewell of Marine Cottage, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe in the March Quarter of 1896. Died 24 October 1917 aged 21.

HERBERT JORDAN
42680 Sergeant Herbert Jordan of "D" Battery, 50th Reserve Brigade, the Royal Field Artillery. Husband of Elizabeth Jordan (née Street) of Ilfracombe. Died 8 October 1917. Buried in the churchyard of Holy Trinity, Ilfracombe. Awarded the DCM.

42680 Corporal H. Jordan, 119th Bty.,RFA:

"For gallant conduct in voluntarily repairing, under heavy shell fire, a telephone wire at a forward observing station. A high explosive shell burst within a few yards of Corporal Jordan but he continued working with great coolness until his task was complete."

10946 Lance Corporal Thomas John Kift of the 2nd Battalion, the Coldstream Guards. Son of George and Elizabeth Kift of Higher Slade, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe in the June Quarter of 1897. Died 16 September 1916 aged 19.
HARRY KLEE
74116 Gunner Henry ("Harry") Oswald Klee of "B" Battery, 296th brigade, the Royal Field Artillery. Son of Hannah Klee of Market Street and the late George Klee. Born  in Ilfracombe in the September Quarter of 1895. Died 2 December 1917 aged 22.
ISAAC KNILL
189749 Leading Seaman Isaac Knill of the Royal Navy, HM Paddle Mine Sweeper Redcar*. Son of Isaac and Elizabeth Knill of Ilfracombe; husband of Edith Gertie Knill of 2 Hermitage Road, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe 11 January 1879. Died 24 June 1917 aged 38.

*HMPMS Redcar was mined and sank 24 June 1917. HMS Kempton came to the aid of her survivors and was mined while picking them up . No survivors from either vessel.

ISAAC KNILL (Jun.)
C/1098 Rifleman Isaac Knill of the 16th Battalion, the King's Royal Rifle Corps. Son of Louis (or Lewis) and Sarah Knill of 5 Hermitage Road, Ilfracombe; husband of Annie Eva Knill. Born in Ilfracombe in 1895. Died 15 July 1916 aged 21.
   ROBERT G LARCOMBE
309324 Petty Officer Telegraphist Robert G. Larcombe of the Royal Navy. HM Submarine E30*. Son of John and Matilda Larcombe of 97 High Street, Ilfracombe. Born in Plymouth 22 December 1880. Died 7 April 1916 aged 36. 

*Death of all on board believed to have been due to explosion of the battery.

STK/152 Private Wallace Caerell Lees of the 10th Battalion, the City of London Regiment. Son of Robert James and Sarah Ann Lees of 49 St Brannock's Road, Ilfracombe.  (His father was a Congregational Minister; Wallace attended Taunton School). Born in Camberwell in the December Quarter of 1894. Died 7 September 1915 aged 21.
GEORGE LEWIS
292040 Chief Stoker George Lewis of the Royal Navy, HMS Roxburgh. Son of the late Henry and Elizabeth Lewis of Laugharne, Carmarthen; husband of Elizabeth Jane Lewis (née Sollis) of 18 Horne Road, Ilfracombe. Born in Laugharne, Carmarthen 6 May 1880. Died 20 September 1918 aged 38. Died in an accident while the ship was at anchor in Quebec,

2312 Private William Thomas Ley of the Royal North Devon Hussars. Son of William Henry and Charlotte Ley of Crowness Cottage, Lee, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe in the March Quarter of 1896. Died 4 December 1915 aged 19.

126929 Private Charles Arthur Lovering of the 54th Battalion, the Canadian Infantry (Central Ontario Regiment). Son of William H and Eliza J Lovering of the Strand, Ilfracombe; brother of John (see below). Born in Ilfracombe in the March Quarter of 1895. Died 17 October 1916 aged 21.

Lieutenant Michael William Annesley MacMichael of the 11th Battalion, the Essex Regiment. Son of the Rev. William Fisher MacMichael and his wife  Mary Elizabeth MacMichael of the Vicarage, Ilfracombe. Born in Lee, Ilfracombe, in 1895. Died 16 September 1916 aged 21.

Captain Arthur Derisley Martin of the 36th Sikhs, attached to the 47th Sikhs. Son of William Thomas and Mary Martin of The Pines, Ilfracombe. Born in India in 1886. Died 17 April 1916 aged 30.

66692 Gunner James Stanley S. Millman of the 118th Siege Battery, the Royal Garrison Artillery. Son of William and Bessie Millman  of 152 High Street, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe in the March Quarter of 1890. Died 18 June 1917 aged 27.

79252 Lance Corporal John Morton of the Canadian Infantry (Albert Regiment). Son of John and Mary Morton of Launceston; husband of Laura May Morton of 14 Oxford Grove, Ilfracombe. Born in Launceston in the September Quarter of 1875. Died 6 April 1916 aged 41.
WALTER H. NORMAN
25559 Private Walter Henry Norman of the 12th Battalion, the East Surrey Regiment. Son o f George and Mary Ann Norman of Silver Lane, Oreston, Plymouth. Born in Ilfracombe in the March Quarter of 1893. Died 29 October 1916 aged 23.
REGINALD W. NORRIS
2nd Lieutenant Reginald Walter Norris of No. 22 Training Depot Station, RAF at Gormanstown, Ireland. Killed while flying in Avro 504J C5928 along with 2nd Lieutenant Percy Camm on 20 October 1918. Buried in the Church of Ireland churchyard at Julianstown, County Neath, Ireland.  He was born in Weymouth in the June Quarter of 1895 and died at the age of 23. His connection with Ilfracombe is not yet known.

269292 Private Herbert H. Norvill ("Bertie") of the Hertfordshire Regiment. Son of Frederick and Elizabeth Norvill. Born in Weston-super-Mare in the March Quarter of 1885. Died 23 March 1918 aged 33.

39652 Sergeant Herbert Percival Parkin of the 3rd Battalion, the Worcestershire Regiment. Son of Frederick and Elizabeth Parkin of Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe in the September Quarter of 1889. Died 28 May 1918 aged 28.

106798 Gunner Reginald James Paskey of the Royal Garrison Artillery. Son of Frederick and Emma Paskey of Umberleigh. Born in Barnstaple in the September Quarter of 1886. Died 5 October 1918 aged 32. Buried in Barnstaple Cemetery.

5415 Private Charles Henry Passmore of the 1st/4th (City of Bristol) Battalion, Territorial Force; attached to the Gloucestershire Regiment. Son of Charles and Martha Passmore of Church Street, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe in the September Quarter of 1890. Died 3 September 1916 aged 25.
HERBERT PERRYMAN
7467 Private Herbert Perryman of the 2nd Battalion, the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Benjamin and Mina Perryman of Berrynarbor. Born in Barrynarbor in the June Quarter of 1885. Died 9 May 1915 aged 30.
ERNEST R. PUGSLEY
His military record is not yet confirmed. He was the son of Philip Pugsley of Highfield Road, Ilfracombe and the late Emily Pugsley and stepson of Philip's second wife, also called Emily. Born in Ilfracombe in the March Quarter of 1887. 
GEORGE H. M. RICHARDS
45048 Private George Howard Martin Richards of the 5th Battalion, Princess Charlotte's (Royal Berkshire) Regiment. Son of Charles and Rhoda Richards of Westbourne Grove, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe in the June Quarter of 1899. Died 31 May 1918 aged 19.
